A day after Mount Kanlaon erupted, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ), through the Ecclesiastical District of Valladolid, Negros Occidental, in the Philippines, provided aid at some of the affected areas during the Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) events that were held on June 4 and 5, 2024.

The recipients gathered at the compound of the house of worship of the Local Congregations of La Castellana and Mansalanao on the first day; that of the Local Congregations of La Carlota City and Mailum the next day.

Distributed to them were care packages, which contained 10 kilograms of rice, noodles, sardines, water, nebulizers, and a box of facemasks.

“I thank the Church Administration for remembering our sake in the face of this calamity,” Hamish Mccoll, head deacon from the Local Congregation of Mailum, expressed. Aside from providing aid, the Church Administration also reminded the brethren “to pray to the Lord God to keep them safe in the midst of tribulations,” Mccoll attested.

“I thank Brother Eduardo V. Manalo for the aid,” said Joan Delvelos, Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN) member from the Local Congregation of La Carlota City. “This is a great help for us who have just been affected.”

With an elevation of 2,465 meters above sea level, Mount Kanlaon is an active andesitic stratovolcano, the highest mountain on the island of Negros, and the highest peak in the Visayas region of the country. — With reports from Juanito R. Gabihan Jr. of INC News Section
