TIAONG, Quezon — Age doesn’t matter when it comes to helping those in need. This was proven by members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) [Church Of Christ] during their blood donation drive in collaboration with the Christian Medical Dental and Paramedical Society (CMDPS) and Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (DJNRMHS), held at Tiaong Plaza in the province of Quezon on June 28.

Some 500 people attended and contributed blood. A total of 176 blood bags were collected during the activity. Both young and old eagerly lined up for the medical check-up and screening prior to the blood collection. Around 20 beds were provided for the event.

The blood donors, all INC members, came from the five towns comprising the Ecclesiastical District of Quezon West: Tiaong, Sariaya, Dolores, San Antonio, and Candelaria.

Nicolas Tanduya, 59, said he donated blood in his desire to help others. In fact, he said, this was his ninth time to be a blood donor.

Beverlyn Montes, 53, said helping those who need blood is very important. “In case we also need [blood], we will [also] be given help. But it’s better if we are the ones giving help,” she said.

Many young people also lined up to donate blood, motivated by the desire to help their fellowmen. “At our young age, we are already able to help those in need,” said 22-year old Pretty May Flores.

Donnabelle Joyce Bongat, a nurse at DJNRMHS, explained the many benefits of donating blood.

Unang una po sa lahat, tayo po ay nakakatulong sa mga taong may sakit, lalong lalo na po yung mga pasyente na nangangailangan po ng blood transfusion.  Sa pamamagitan din po ng pagdo-donate ng dugo, tayo po ay nakakakuha ng libreng check-up [First and foremost, we are helping people who are sick, especially patients in need of blood transfusion. Through blood donation, we also get a free check-up],” she said.

INC District Minister for Quezon West, Brother Christopher Angeles explained how the INC brethren in their district “immediately responded” and showed their strong unity to help others when they were informed of the blood donation activity. “Sa awa at tulong po ng ating Panginoong Diyos, napakarami po sa araw na ito ang nag-donate po ng dugo [With the mercy and help of our Lord God, many donated blood today],” he added.
