Christ is different from God

The Lord Jesus Christ offers not only comfort from our burdens in this life but most especially the true rest in the heavenly kingdom.

MOST OF THOSE who profess that they are Christians believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is God. They claim that this belief is based on the Bible and will therefore bring them salvation. But, is Christ really God? Or is He different from the only true God that the Holy Scriptures teaches? It is vital to discern the truth about the true God because it is only by upholding the truth written in the Bible that one will be able to find his way to receiving eternal life (John 17:3). Here are proofs that Christ is distinct from God:

God

Christ

Sent Christ (John 5:37 New King James Version)

“And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.”

Was sent by God (John 8:42 NKJV)

“Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.”

Has no beginning (Ps. 90:2 Living Bible)

“Before the mountains were created, before the earth was formed, you are God without beginning or end.”

Came from God (John 8:42 NKJV)

“Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.”

Is immortal (I Tim. 1:17 NKJV)

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Experienced death (John 19:33 NKJV)

“But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.”

Knows no other God (Isa. 44:8 NKJV)

“Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.”

Acknowledges God (Mark 15:34 NKJV)

“And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’ which is translated, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’”

Never gets weary or tired (Isa. 40:28 NKJV)

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”

Got weary (John 4:6 NKJV)

“Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus
therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It
was about the sixth hour.”

Is spirit, having no flesh and bones (John 4:24 NKJV)

“God is Spirit, and those who worship
Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

(Luke 24:37, 39 NKJV)

“But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit … Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”

Has flesh and bones (Luke 24:39 NKJV)

“Behold My hands and My feet, that it
is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as
you see I have.”

Knows all things (I John 3:20 NKJV)

“For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.”

Does not know when Judgment Day will be (Matt. 24:36 New International Version)

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

These are some biblical proofs that the Lord Jesus Christ is different from God. Therefore, Christ is not God. This is what Brother Felix Y. Manalo, God’s Messenger in these last days, taught from the Bible—proving false the opposing belief of established religious organizations in his time. What the Bible teaches about Christ is what the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) continues to uphold until now and will continue to do so because, and only because, this is what is written in the Holy Scriptures—the basis of true faith.

The Lord Jesus Christ Himself and His apostles attest to His nature or state of being—He is man (John 8:40; I Tim. 2:5; Acts 2:22; Matt. 1:18, 20). Regarding man, the Lord God declares:

“Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god.” (Ezek. 28:2 NKJV)

Meanwhile, God declared about Himself thus:

“I will not execute the fierceness of My anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim. For I am God, and not man, The Holy One in your midst; And I will not come with terror.” (Hos. 11:9 NKJV)

These pronouncements of the Lord God all the more prove that the Lord Jesus Christ is not God. The Almighty God stated that He is not man and that man is not God. There is absolutely no room for the idea about Christ being both man and God. In fact, the Lord Jesus Christ specifically identified who the true God is:

“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You… And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:1, 3 NKJV, emphasis ours)

The Lord Jesus Christ is firm in His declaration that His Father is the only true God—not Christ—and believing so leads one to attaining eternal life.
