THERE IS NO DENYING that having wisdom is essential for one to succeed. For this reason, most parents invest greatly on sending their children to school. As for the children, they are expected to study hard for the sake of their own future.
The Bible explicitly teaches that “wisdom is more precious than rubies” and nothing compares with it (Prov. 8:11 New International Version).
Given the great value of wisdom, King Solomon advised:
“Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do. Whatever else you get, get insight. Love wisdom, and she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will bring you honor. She will be your crowning glory.” (Prov. 4:7-9 Good News Bible)
Hence, wisdom gives strength, power, riches, and glory (Prov. 8:14-16, 18-19, 21 GNB).
Advancements in technology have helped greatly in the spread of knowledge. With only a few clicks, one using the Internet gains access to vast amount of information. Although the wisdom these provide brings certain gains, God Himself warns that some knowledge may also mislead His people to doing wickedness:
“You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me.’ Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.” (Isa. 47:10-11 NIV)
Far greater and more important than the wisdom this world offers, the greater wisdom that man should seek at all cost is the one that is based on God’s teachings written in the Holy Scriptures, for it leads to salvation:
“And you remember that ever since you were a child, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (II Tim. 3:15 GNB)
One of the Biblical truths concerning salvation which man should learn, understand, and fulfill is that which the Lord Jesus Christ taught:
“So Jesus spoke again: ‘In very truth I tell you, I am the door of the sheepfold. … I am the door; anyone who comes into the fold through me will be safe. …’” (John 10:7, 9 Revised English Bible)
The fold being referred to which man should enter is the Church Of Christ:
“Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood.” (Acts 20:28 Lamsa Translation)
Once man receives the wisdom from God for his salvation, he should neither forget it nor swerve from it. God Himself instructs:
“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.” (Prov. 4:5 NIV)
