LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — Members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) conducted simultaneous community service activities in the province of Albay and in Donsol, Sorsogon to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Church.

Ten sites were chosen for these activities:  nine of them in Albay and one in Donsol, Sorsogon.

The nine sites in Albay are as follows: (1) Legazpi City; (2) Polangui; (3) Guinobatan; (4) Bacacay; (5) Barangay Langaton; (6) Barangay San Jose, Libon; (7) Manito; (8) Barangay Anislag, Daraga; and (9) Lobos. Another site was the coastal area of Barangay Rawis in Donsol, Sorsogon, which is still part of the INC Ecclesiastical District of Albay.

The INC members proceeded to the designated areas, bringing with them brooms, garbage bags, sacks, dustpans, sanitary gloves, and other cleaning items. The various trash and other waste which they have collected were then properly disposed of.

Ito po’y ginagawa ng Iglesia Ni Cristo para makatulong sa komunidad sa dakong ito [This is done by the Iglesia Ni Cristo to help the community in this area],” explained Brother Eric Zaratan, the INC District Minister in Albay,  “Hindi lang tayo tumutulong sa gawaing espirituwal na itinataguyod ng Iglesia para sa kapakanan ng kaligtasan ng mga tao, kundi tumutulong din  sa kalinisan at kaayusan ng kalikasan upang ito ay mapangalagaan [We not only engage in the spiritual activities upheld by the Church to ensure people’s salvation, but also help contribute to the cleanliness of our environment and ensure the protection of our natural resources],” he added.

The activities did not go unnoticed by the people from the various communities where the INC held its community service.

Malaking tulong po na nalinisan yung barangay namin [It is a great help that our barangay was cleaned],” said Rico Maquiñana, a Barangay Tanod in Barangay Rawis. “Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa tulong ng mga [kaanib sa] Iglesia [I am thankful to the INC members for their help].”
