For two consecutive days, Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members in all the 10 local congregations and eight group worship services (GWS) of the recently established Queensland, Australia Ecclesiastical District meet for their first INC Unity Games.
On October 6, 2024, bowling players from the local congregations in Metro Brisbane, namely, Brisbane, Caboolture, Ipswich, Logan, North Brisbane, and Gold Coast, convened at the Zone Bowling Mt Gravatt, a bowling alley in Macgregor, Australia. The following day, more games were played, including volleyball and basketball.
“I enjoyed the chance to collaborate with my teammates. It’s inspiring to see everyone cheering other on, regardless of the outcome,” shared basketball player Darryl Calaguas of Logan Congregation. “That moment when we were down in points, but the way our team rallied together made it unforgettable. It truly exemplified the spirit of unity,” said volleyball player Suamalie Iosefa from Chinchilla GWS of Ipswich Congregation.
Energizing as well as engaging were the colorful cheerleading routines as the participants exhibited creativity and teamwork. “We faced some challenges with coordination, but we practiced regularly. Overcoming those obstacles brought us closer together,” shared Janice Juat of the same congregation.
Champion in basketball and volleyball-women was the Logan Congregation; champion in volleyball-men and cheerleading the Gold Coast Coast Congregation; and champion in bowling the Brisbane Congregation. They received trophies and medals.
Ranked by the number of medals received, Brisbane Congregation placed first with 8 medals (1 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze). Next was the Gold Coast Congregation with 6 medals; North Brisbane, 4; and Ipswich, 2.
More than “remind[ing] us the importance of unity,” said Xienna Esto of Gold Coast Congregation, “these activities help us build lasting relationships that extend beyond the games.”
