With high spirits as the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) reached its 110th anniversary, the Ecclesiastical District of Hawaii-Pacific conducted a coastal clean-up and a sports clinic, on July 29, and August 2 and 4, 2024, respectively.
The coastal clean-up was held at three separate locations: One’ula Beach Park on Oahu, Coconut Island Park on the Big Island, and Wahikuli Wayside Beach Park on Maui.
Brethren from the congregations of American Samoa, Ewa Beach, Honolulu, Kalaheo, Kalihi, Kaneohe, Kapolei, Kunia, Lihue, Maili, Pearl City, Pearl Harbor, Wahiawa, Waikiki, and Waipahu; Hilo, Honokaa, Kailua-Kona, Keaau, Naalehu, and Kalaheo; and Lahaina and Wailuku flocked to their designated site and enthusiastically helped in cleaning the beachfront.
“Taking part in our activity today is a lot of fun. This also functions as a means of bringing together the brethren from adjacent congregations and islands, demonstrating our solidarity with the Church Administration in the endeavor they initiated,” stated Joanne Morris, choir president in the Lihue Local Congregation. “This also helps introduce the Church to our community and demonstrates to them the unity of the brethren in helping one another,” she added.
The sports clinic was on August 2 and 4, 2024. It was held at Beyond Ball Hawaii in Kaneohe and at the Ewa Beach Congregation compound, respectively. The Children’s Worship Service (CWS) members, among other Christian Family Organizations (CFO) members, were given tips on how to properly play basketball, volleyball, even riding a bicycle; teamwork and unity were highlighted to them.
“I’m grateful to the Church Administration for organizing this event. I learned not only how to ride a bicycle but also a life lesson, that is, to never give up in my aspirations no matter how many times I fall. Just like riding a bicycle, as long as I keep standing up or remaining positive in life, I will conquer all obstacles with the help of our Lord God,” said Fernando Junsai, a CWS member from Pearl City Congregation.
“I had fun participating,” said Ethan Blas of Honolulu Congregation. “The activity has inspired me to enhance my talents and skills in playing basketball and volleyball since these have always been my passion. Also, it is so great to bond with my fellow brethren during the activity,” he added.
