PALAYAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – In a remarkable demonstration of community service, Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) members in Palayan City and adjacent municipalities in Nueva Ecija gathered in Nueva Ecija Sports Coliseum for a blood donation activity on October 12, 2024 to provide essential blood supplies to those in need.

The INC conducted the activity in collaboration with Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center (PJGMRMC).

Dr. Laurice Ong MD-Pathology Department of PJGMRMC praised the initiative noting its importance for local healthcare. She also encouraged regular blood donations. She explained that “females can donate every four to six months, and males every three to four months.”

“This kind of event is important because it saves lives and also, there are studies that show that it’s good for our health, for our liver and heart problems. So, I encourage everyone to regularly donate blood,” she said.

Members of the INC’s Christian Medical Dental and Paramedical Society (CMDPS) also helped out in the event.

Many INC members from the District of Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, trooped to the venue, eager to donate blood.

They were first required to undergo a strict medical screening and check-up to ensure that they are qualified to donate blood. This also ensures the safety of the blood donated.

“We are here today to unite in the call to donate blood. This will help our fellow members and others in need,” explained one of the participants, Sonia Alarcon, who has already donated 17 times in past events. “This also has a good effect on our body. I can say that it is a great help for our health too.”

Arabella Serrano, a nursing student and a first-time donor, highlighted the personal significance of the event: “As a nursing student, I know how crucial blood donations are. This effort not only benefits me but can also help many people.”

The event showcased the importance of collaboration in addressing healthcare needs, and how this made a positive impact on the community.

Brother Antero Fermin, an INC Minister, emphasized the community’s dedication to service.

“Our brethren in Palayan City are ready to support government initiatives. Their willingness to participate reflects their commitment to helping others,” he said.

Brother Luisito Rivera, district minister, expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “We are thankful to our Lord God for His guidance. This blood donation drive is significant, helping both our members and those outside the Church.”

The INC regularly conducts blood donation activities not only in the Philippines, but in other countries as well.
