To enhance not only the members’ knowledge but also their skills to excel in life, the Ecclesiastical District of Marikina, in the Philippines, held three seminars for them at their respective venues on March 29, 2025.

Basic freelancing

Spearheaded by the district KADIWA officers, a basic freelancing seminar was held at Parang Congregation’s conference hall for Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members who seek job opportunities. Deaconess and finance officer from the aforementioned congregation, Michelle Hicalde, who is also a licensed professional teacher, served as the resource speaker.

“I learned that skills are what’s needed to earn for a living which can be acquired not only in schools but through life experiences as well,” shared attendee Myra Sumalinog. “If one takes the path of a freelancer, he can manage not just his workload but also his time, which can be helpful especially to a Church member who also has to fulfill duties in the Church,” she added.

“Providing for our needs is very challenging as life is difficult nowadays. This seminar aims to extend the Church Administration’s care for the brethren who aspire for a better means of living,” district KADIWA president Gio Soriao said.

Baybayin

Binhi district officers introduced in a seminar the Philippines’ ancient writing system Baybayin. Held at the house of worship of Bayanbayanan Congregation, the seminar was led by Sta. Ana Congregation head secretary and Cainta Elementary School teacher Rose Ann Villarosa.

“We were taught how to write and read baybayin and its historical significance,” said local Binhi officer Shane Howell Timbol. District Binhi president Aubrey Norielle Magdato believes that “having knowledge about the Philippines and its rich history can be compared to understanding the Last Messenger’s life history and the emergence of the Church Of Christ in these last days.”

Public speaking

At the Concepcion Congregation’s house of worship, an effective public speaking seminar was organized by the district Christian Brotherhood International (CBI) officers. District multimedia officer and Eagle Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) production staff Kimberlyn Dela Cruz served as the resource speaker.

“I learned that I must be prepared as I speak to my audience, such as during recitation in class, to help me build up my confidence and be clear with my message,” narrated senior high school student Hannah Parungao, who is a choir member and Children’s Worship Service officer in Concepcion Congregation.

District CBI director Dexter Sulit expressed that the seminar they conducted would allow students like him “to develop our communication skills which we need especially as we perform our God-given tasks.”

The CFO officers who organized and led the three seminars were guided by district CFO overseer Brother Jake Jambaro. On behalf of fellow officers, Soriao added, “We will continue to be one with the Church Administration in launching activities that will help the brethren under our care to excel in their career and, most importantly, in fulfilling their duties to God so as to be pleasing before Him.” — With reports from Allysa Buenaventura and Giancarlo Jorge
