Driven by their desire to be of help to those in need, Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members from the Local Congregation of Proprietarios, Ecclesiastical District of Makati, in the Philippines, voluntarily participated in a blood donation drive on June 1, 2024.
Held at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in Pasay City, the charitable activity was successfully conducted in collaboration with the Church’s Social Services Office (SSO) and Christian Medical Dental and Paramedical Society (CMDPS).
A head deacon with the congregation, Jobert Fortes, stated that he and fellow brethren-volunteers “upon knowing about the activity … immediately decided to donate blood to help those in need of it.”
A total of 41 blood bags were collected from the volunteer-donors, which were then turned over to the Philippine Orthopedic Center in Quezon City through its representatives.
While there are “benefits on our part every time we donate blood, such as increased production of red blood cells, and reduced cancer risk levels,” explained Cynthia Angeles Gallo, director of the Blood Services Program of Makati District’s CMDPS, but “most importantly every time we donate blood, we are able to help extend someone else’s life.” — With reports from Moises Osorio of INC News Section
