Members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN) in two ecclesiastical districts in Philippine province of Bulacan underwent fire prevention seminars on separate venues on March 23, 2024. March is the Fire Prevention Month in the country.
Both SCAN chapters in the Bulacan North District and Bulacan West benefited from the refresher course that aimed to equip the participants with essential knowledge and skills in effective fire prevention and suppression.
They received instructions in responding during fire incidents and underwent practical demonstrations, such as the use of fire extinguishers.
Rhanie Nicdao, SCAN president of the Local Congregation of Quiapo, Manila Ecclesiastical District, served as speaker in the seminar in Bulacan North held at the covered court of San Miguel North Central School in the town of San Miguel.
Cherry Ann Rodriguez, a Fire Officer 1 in Tarlac Province, as well as finance officer with the Sta. Monica Congregation, Capas, Tarlac District, led the discussions in the Bulacan West that took place at the covered court in Barangay Tabe, Guiguinto Town.
“Basic firefighting techniques will make our brethren further able to prevent fire from escalating while they wait rescue from firefighters,” Rodriguez said.
“What I learned today is truly helpful during emergency situations,” said Lorelen Villarta, SCAN member in Bulacan West District. — With reports from Hazel Ann Pangilinan and Azyl Era Delos Santos of INC News Section
