The Ecclesiastical District of South Central States organized an online seminar on fire prevention and emergency response on March 31, 2025.

Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN) district president Eric Haler, a retired Sergeant from the 82nd Airborne Infantry, served as the resource speaker. He detailed to the brethren the precautionary measures to prevent fire emergencies at home, which include installing smoke detectors, having fire extinguishers, teaching children about the dangers of fire, creating an escape plan, and having a family communications plan.

The speaker also highlighted common causes of home fires, such as clothing dryers, electrical appliances, and flammable liquids, among others. He further emphasized key safety measures and provided guidance on how to respond effectively during a fire emergency to ensure the safety of all individuals. Moreover, he reminded the brethren to call emergency services if the fire begins to spread.

“This kind of activity is very important, as it not only raises awareness but also provides us with the knowledge on how to prevent fire emergencies and how to respond in case of a fire,” SCAN member Jeffrey Bennett from the Local Congregation of Fort Worth, Texas, said.

Julian Abejar from the Dallas, Texas Local Congregation expressed, “A valuable thing I learned was the importance of having a fire escape plan. We’ve never really practiced what to do in an emergency, but now I realize how crucial it is to have a clear plan to get out quickly if there’s a fire.”

“I thank the Church Administration for always prioritizing our safety, not only in spiritual matters but also in our daily lives. This seminar is significant, knowing that fire can cause irreversible damage to lives and property. Preventing fires before they start is always better than responding to them after they occur. I hope the activity today has inspired everyone in attendance to be more cautious and alert in whatever they are doing to ensure their safety,” said SCAN member Froi Francisco from Jacksonville, Arkansas Local Congregation.
